B-permits for non-EU candidates in Switzerland

von Marion Russek (Kommentare: 1)

Before embarking on a job search and contacting agencies and headhunters, please ensure that you are allowed to change employer: ‘A B-permit issued to someone from a non-EU country and a B-permit issued to someone with an EU-passport is not the same – but this is not visible on the permit itself. B-permits for non-EU persons who got this through their employer are usually bonded to the employer and therefore a change of employer in Switzerland necessitates the full process of getting a work permit again (not transferable to new employer) as if you were applying from your home country. The only exception is if you received the permit on grounds of your spouse working/living here. The only governmental ruling from Bern for all cantons is that after 48 months in Switzerland this bonding to the company getting you the permit becomes obsolete.’ Anyone wanting to find out whether his/her B-permit is bonded should contact the cantonal migration office: they will look into your file and are able to tell you.
